A momentary reprieve from the lady with bad hair.
Quick one today.
(Oh, and by the way, the photo accompanying this little post, a picture provided by my friend Thor, has absolutely nothing to do with anything that follows. Sharing a picture of the offending party would be pointless and unpleasant. Why not some cotton candy instead?)
Kim Davis can go back to the fundamentalist cave she lives in for a bit. The Supreme Court has rejected her appeal, one that had the potential to dismantle same-sex marriage.
This means that, for now, Alonso and I can still visit each other in a hospital and make medical decisions. We can get surviving spouse Social Security benefits. Things straight people take for granted.
There was a brief window after 2015 where I thought that this was all finally settled. It was a relief, one less stressful obstacle in the path. Then the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, which one again turned queers into that enticing object that the cat would keep trying to knock off the table.
There are so many daily horrors taking place in the United States right now. To list them would take a very long time. Besides, you already see them. And there will always be a Kim Davis out there demanding that queer people make the case for their own humanity. But right now she has been turned away until someone new comes along to try again.
